Winnie Sanders

Winnie was born on May 22,1920 in Morrow, GA to John Wylie Burks and Eunice Rebecca Trammel Burks.  After her parents’ death when she was two years old, Winnie was raised by her uncle and aunt, Henry and Ellie Toney of Forest Park, GA.

 

Winnie married the love of her life, Jesse Sanders, on November 20, 1940. They were married for 62 years.

 

Winnie was a member of First Baptist Church of Forest Park, GA for over 70 years.

 

Winnie is survived by her son Preston (Kathy) Sanders of Washington, GA; daughter Lynda (Skip) Young of Peachtree City, GA; grandchildren Misty Bowman, Jean (Denny) Pettway, Melanie Johnson, Anna (Trey) Scott, Cary (Ryan) Hefty, Kristi (Wes) Johnson, and Scott (Shannon) Kersey; 19 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Sanders; grandson Frank Sanders; and sisters Audrey Harrell and Merle Collins.

 

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 1:30 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Winnie’s son, Preston, will officiate.  Visitation will occur prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 pm. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Forest Park, GA.
