Ruth H. Smith, a beloved member of the Lake City community, has passed away at the age of 93. She was born in Palmetto, Georgia on December 18, 1930, and departed from this world on December 25, 2023, in Fayetteville, Georgia. Ruth was a respected Emergency Dispatcher for the City of Forest Park, dedicating two decades of her life to serving and protecting others until her well-deserved retirement.
Devoted to her faith, Ruth was a devout believer in God and was a member of Jones Memorial Methodist Church for over 40 years. Her spirituality guided her actions and brought solace during difficult times. Ruth's intellectual curiosity was evident in the way she approached life; always seeking to expand her knowledge and understanding of the world around her.
Beyond her professional achievements and faith, Ruth held a myriad of interests and hobbies close to her heart. She had a talent for playing guitar and cherished moments spent singing folk music of the ‘60s. Additionally, Ruth enjoyed piloting her Piper airplane through the skies, finding freedom in the vast expanse above. Closer to home, she found solace in tending to her garden and reveled in the beauty of nature surrounding her. Crossword puzzles were another beloved pastime that challenged her mind and brought joy to quiet moments.
Ruth's love for life extended beyond personal interests; it encompassed the love she had for family and friends. She leaves behind cherished memories within the hearts of her daughter, Cheryl Wilber & husband Tom of Brevard, NC, granddaughter, Megan Baltazar, grandson Kenneth Smith, granddaughter, Brianna Smith Hutchinson, four great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Martin Lisle Smith. Ruth's presence will be deeply missed, but her love and legacy will live on through her family's cherished memories.
