Marie Cooper

December 29, 1939 — July 10, 2024

Stockbridge, Georgia

Marie Cooper, known for her dedication to teaching music and nurturing young minds, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 29, 1939, to Jake and Janie Norris. Marie's passion for music shone brightly throughout her career of over 60 years as a piano teacher, and all her adult life as pianist or organist at her church. She also spent many years teaching kindergarten at Maranatha Christian School, Faith Christian Academy and North Henry Academy.

Marie's legacy will forever be remembered through the memories she created with her loved ones. There were many trips to Pigeon Forge, TN, her favorite vacation spot, where she indulged her love of outlet mall shopping, Southern Gospel Music shows, and visiting Dollywood with her children and grandchildren. Marie’s all-time favorite musician was Elvis Presley. She even named her first beloved dog Elvis P. Cooper and had "Heartbreak Hotel" as the ringtone on her cell phone! Her hardworking nature coupled with a loving and nurturing personality touched the lives of all those around her.

Marie was a true Southern Lady! She had a standing appointment every Friday with her best friend and hairdresser, Vickie Moss, whom she loved like a sister.

Marie had an unwavering faith in God and one of her proudest accomplishments was raising her five children, instilling in them a deep-rooted love for serving the Lord. She taught and encouraged countless others to pursue ministry in their churches through music, whether playing an instrument or directing a choir.

Marie's memory will be cherished by a large circle of family and friends, including her children, Chris Cooper & wife Trish, Vicki Martone & husband Steve, Cindy Ernst & husband Mark, Chet Cooper & wife Annette, Jodie Howard & husband Jeff; sisters-in-law Karen Norris, Joyce Cooper, Sarah Foster, and Judy Hunter,19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, who were the apple of their Granny’s eye. Numerous nieces & nephews also hold dear memories of their beloved Aunt Rie, along with the several cousins who were frequently cared for along with her children. She is preceded by her loving husband of 63 years, Dick Cooper, parents Jake & Janie Norris, and her beloved brother, Larry Norris.

A celebration of Marie's life will take place at North Henry Baptist Church in Stockbridge, GA on July 16, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM,, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. The burial service will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens immediately following the Funeral Service.

Marie Cooper's dedication to enriching lives through music and education will forever be etched in the hearts of those she touched. In this time of loss, let us remember Marie as a beacon of light whose love and devotion continue to inspire us all. We are all grateful to know without doubt that she trusted in Jesus Christ’s gift of salvation through grace and faith, free from pain, and joining a myriad of those she loved as they meet and worship their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face.
