Juanita ("Nita") Virginia Maxey of Jonesboro passed away at the age of 85 on February 18, 2025. She was born in Greensboro, GA to the late Hugh and Gladys Stanley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron L. Maxey and her brother, Walter Stanley.
Nita was active in church throughout her entire life. Raised and married in First Baptist Church of Forest Park, Nita and Myron later became members of First Baptist of Morrow. There, Nita was ordained as a deacon, sang in the sanctuary choir, and participated regularly in Sunday School.
She graduated in 1957 from Forest Park High School where she was the Salutatorian of her senior class. Nita attended Massey Business College that helped prepare her to serve as an administrative assistant for multiple truck lines. Nita and Myron married on March 17, 1963. After their children were born, Nita dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mom where she provided a loving and supportive life for her family. She cherished her time spent on church mission trips, staying at the family lake house, and visiting with family and friends.
Nita is survived by her sister, Katherine (Ron) Dodson of Lake City, GA; her children Stanley (Michelle) Maxey of Stockbridge, GA, and Lisa (Jim) Bicksel of Annandale, VA. She has four grandchildren: Hollyanne Maxey, Wesley Maxey, Michael Bicksel, and Ashley Bicksel as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Morrow on Friday, February 21 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM at the church. A private graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 22 at Clark Cemetery in Lexington, GA.
