James "Rick" Johnson

In celebration of the life of James Richard Johnson.

James "Rick" Johnson, of Morrow, passed away April 26, 2022. The family will receive friends, Monday, May 02, 2022, 4-7 pm. Service will be held Tuesday, May 03, 2022 at 11:00 am at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors. Pastor James Calhoun will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.

Rick, to his friends, was a man of many loves. His first and primary love was his wife, Janice. His mother-in-law to be, Mary, introduced them and they have never left each other's side, living and loving for 54 years. Throughout the 54 years Rick and Janice created a foundation of love and strength; a foundation that cannot be replaced.

His second love is his son, Larry. Together they shared a passion for golf, of which they created many special memories. Those memories were made even more special when Rick's grandson, Cody, was with them. Rick treasured his wife, son and grandson. Yet, those that knew Rick knew he never met a stranger. He enjoyed having a drink now-and-then, and would strike up a conversation with anyone - especially when his two favorite teams were playing - Go Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves!! He was blessed and incredibly excited to see his two favorite teams secure National titles in the 2021 season.

Rick retired from the City of Morrow Police Department in 2005, retiring with the rank of Captain after 35 years. Rick was a true civil servant; as his first priority and desire was to protect the citizens of Morrow. He embodied the true definition of "Protect and Serve".

We have lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Yet, Heaven has gained an angel that will always be loved and never forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Johnson, and Nellie Johnson Fisher; sisters, Judy Johnson, and Robyn Johnson; brothers, Larry Johnson, and Danny Johnson. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Janice; son, Larry Allen Johnson (Robyn); grandson, Cody Allen Johnson; sisters, Joyce Moss, Babs Walker (Red), Sherry Calhoun (James), Patricia Johnson, Bonnie Moore (Billy), Susan Johnson, and Lynn Gallards (Oscar); mother-in-law, Mary Starnes; sister-in-law, Karen Haney (Dwight); numerous nieces, and nephews.
