Obituary for Henry Fay Gilbert Mewborn
Henry Fay Gilbert Mewborn, 87, of Morrow, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025. Born on March 30, 1937, she was the daughter of the late William Brackston Gilbert Sr. and Minnie Glenn Craven Gilbert. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, Fay lived a life filled with faith, family, and service.
She was married to Thomas Lee Mewborn for 62 years, sharing a special and enduring love. Together, they raised two sons: Michael Thomas Mewborn (Cindy) and Jeffrey Gilbert Mewborn (Cindy). Fay's family grew over the years to include seven grandchildren-Thomas Mewborn, Sarah Mewborn, Kayla Brown, Jacob Mewborn, Noah Mewborn, Jessica Cunningham, and Jonathon Wambles-and seven great-grandchildren: Ellie, Piper, Dannie, Macy, Caroline, Levi, and Harper. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Thompson, Charlotte Courtoy, Mary Cook, and Sue Linnenkohl, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her brother, William "Billy" Gilbert.
A valedictorian graduate of Forest Park High School, Class of 1955, Fay was a long-time member of Noah's Ark Church in Jonesboro, Georgia, having previously been a charter member of Forest Park United Methodist Church. Over the years, she took on many roles, from youth counselor to treasurer, but her heart and voice were most at home in the church choir where she loved to sing. Her devotion to her church will always be remembered.
Professionally, Fay worked for the Social Security Administration where she earned multiple awards for her dedication and service. She was often recognized as an outstanding employee.
Fay will always be remembered for the love and care she put into her life's simple pleasures-baking her famous chocolate cakes (with especially beloved chocolate icing!), cheering on the Atlanta Braves, playing the piano, and her joy of solving puzzles and playing games. She lived her life with kindness, compassion, and a fierce love for her family.
A funeral service to celebrate Fay's life will be held at 1:00 PM on January 16th at Noah's Ark Church in Jonesboro, Georgia. The family will receive visitors for a time of visitation the day before, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors in Morrow, Georgia. Fay's legacy of faith, love, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
