Hazel Galyon Lovin

October 8, 1920 — August 26, 2021

Hazel Galyon Lovin, 100, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 26. She passed away peacefully in her home. “Nanny” was a native of Sweetwater, Tenn and had four brothers (Ray, Herschel, Orville and Charles) and two sisters (Vena and Orene) who all predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elsie Galyon and her loving husband of 55 years, Grady.

A graveside service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 11:00 am. Dr. Murray Edwards will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the cemetery beginning at 10:30 am.

She and Grady were married on June 10, 1944, and she then sent him off to the European Theater of WWII to not see him again for over a year. He returned only to be deployed to the Pacific Theater. They moved to Forest Park after the war and raised two beautiful daughters, Lydia and Lucy.  Nanny was a loyal member of Ash Street Baptist Church since 1955 and rarely ever missed a Sunday. She was fiercely guided by her faith and loved talking about it. Often telling everyone to sing hymns when life gets hard or if they were lonely. A graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College, she and Grady owned Lovin’s Furniture Inc. for many years before retiring in 1986. Nanny continued to drive herself around town in her token Lincoln Town Car up until Easter Sunday 2019, age 98, and lived on her own until God called her home.  For many years, she always said “My bags are packed (for heaven)” and was especially excited to tell her Dad how long she lived. She feared that her family thought she had gone to hell because she had not arrived in Heaven yet.

She is survived by her daughters, Lydia Jackson (Dewey) of Sharpsburg and Lucy Laney (Alex) of Dunwoody; grandchildren, Amy Jackson Engram (Travis), Chris Laney (Christie), Jeffrey Jackson (Katie), Lori Laney Flores (Obadiah); great grandchildren, Taylor, Joshua, Liam, Adeline, Sawyer, Sofia, and Sarah, numerous nieces and nephews.

If so desired, in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to LBDA, Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc.,912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047@ https://www.lbda.org/donate/. A link to the donation site has been added to the left of the page for your convenience.
