Floyd Ray, a hardworking and dedicated man, has passed away peacefully in his home in Jonesboro, Georgia on February 3, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family during his final moments. Born on December 21, 1931, in Eddie, Alabama, Floyd's life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his remarkable career as a truck driver.
Floyd's professional journey spanned over 60 years, during which he proudly served as a member of the Teamsters Union. His dedication and skill behind the wheel were admired by all who knew him. Floyd possessed a remarkable talent for fixing anything around the yard; armed with nothing more than a bag of concrete, a book of matches, and a bag of seed, he could bring life back into any corner of his property.
He had an undeniable aura of stubbornness emanating from him. Yet it was this characteristic that fueled his determination to overcome any challenges that came his way. Floyd's sharp intellect and intuitive nature allowed him to find solutions where others saw roadblocks. Ever helpful and down to earth, he was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
Floyd will be remembered for his loving and caring nature. He was known for being both a good man and provider for his family. Possessing a heart full of affection, he made sure that compassion and support were prominent within his household. Moreover, Floyd possessed a delightful sense of humor that never failed to brighten the room.
Outside of work, Floyd found solace in various hobbies and interests. He derived joy from working in the yard, tending to the birds that frequented it, taking care of his beloved cockatiels and dogs. He often embarked on leisurely walks with Betty, enjoying each other's company whilst exploring their surroundings. Additionally, he cherished moments spent at Crane's Hardware store where he could immerse himself in the world of tools and handyman inventions. One of his simplest yet happiest pleasures was sharing Cheerios with his bird, Fergie.
Floyd's military service was another significant aspect of his life. With immense pride and dedication, he served in the United States Army for six years, protecting and serving his country.
Among Floyd's proudest accomplishments was his 33-year marriage to his beloved wife, Betty Ray. Their bond was unbreakable, and Betty held an irreplaceable spot in his heart. The love they shared was evident to all who witnessed their enduring relationship.
Floyd leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever be treasured by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his son, Leon Edwards and his wife Donna; sister, Linda Joe; granddaughters, Michelle Hough and her husband Austin, and Rachelle Edwards; grandson, Darrin Ray Jr.; great-granddaughters, Gabriella Hough and Abbegalle Hough; and great-grandson, Gabriel Hough. Their memories of Floyd will serve as a testament to the impact he had on their lives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ray and son Steven Ray.
