Emory B. Sweat

October 3, 1968 — June 29, 2021

Emory Sweat, age 52 of Hampton, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2021. He fought courageously against pancreatic and liver cancer, and was surrounded by his family as he peacefully went to Heaven. He was born in West Tennessee, but spent most of his life in Atlanta. He graduated from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1993 with a degree in Chemistry. After working for various medical establishments, he worked for his uncle’s painting business, KR Pope Painting, which helped forge his incredible work habit and drive to succeed. In the last decade, he established his own successful commercial painting business, Emory Contracting Service. He was forever grateful to his residential and commercial customers, including Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur and the surrounding counties of Fayette, Rockdale, and Fulton County School Systems for entrusting him with their painting needs. He strived to treat every customer as family!
Emory was a devoted husband and an amazing father whose pride and joy was his son! He also loved his family and friends dearly and never met a stranger thanks to his positive and caring personality. He had a strong work ethic and was highly respected by those who knew him personally and professionally. His contagious love for life and sense of humor kept us all smiling over many years and even as he held strong to his faith in God and fought cancer these past 6+ months. He was an avid golfer and huge fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and all college football. He enjoyed cycling, hiking, and being outdoors. He loved traveling with his wife and son, especially to the mountains, as well as spending time with his family and close friends.
Services for Emory will be held at the Apostolic Tabernacle, 9769 Tara Blvd, Jonesboro, Ga., on Wednesday, July 07, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Vandy Pope and Pastor Craig McAdams will be officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Karen Sweat, and son, Carson Sweat; mother, Robby (Sam) of Lake City, GA; father, Jimmy Sweat of Stantonville, TN; siblings Neal Sweat, Nita Pierce, and Daniel Sweat of LaGrange and Conyers, GA; Dwayne Pinder (Angel) of Jonesboro, GA; Deanna Searcy (Todd) of Covington, GA; his stepmother-in-law, Karen Freeman of San Marcos, CA; his sisters-in-law, Sue Kilgore (Andy) of McDonough, GA, and Michelle Reeder (Steve) of Valley Center, CA; his brothers-in-law, Mike Kuhn (Mindy) of Redlands, CA, Mark Kuhn of Vista, CA, and Mike Gault (Jean) of Carlsbad, CA; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, it was Emory’s wish that contributions be made to help his wife and son when he passed away. Memorial contributions can be made at https://gofund.me/63aa9c82.
