Byron Daniel Phillips, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, in Stockbridge, Georgia, at the age of 78. Born on January 30, 1946, in Cedartown, Georgia, Byron was known for his kind heart and great sense of humor, often bringing joy to those around him with his comedic and warm personality.
Byron honorably served multiple years in the United States Air Force, a commitment that shaped his character and instilled in him the values of dedication and service. He was a proud member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Morrow, Georgia, for over 20 years. Byron took great pride in caring for the church, contributing in various ways from mowing the grass to general maintenance, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his faith and community.
A loving family man, Byron treasured the time spent with his loved ones. He enjoyed moments at O'Charley's with family and relished the simple pleasures in life, such as his banana sandwiches made with may and peanut butter. Known for his close bond with his dogs, Abby and Jethro, he regarded them as his children—often found never too far from his side. His favorite indulgence was a refreshing Diet Coke, which he was seldom seen without.
Byron’s greatest accomplishment was his lasting marriage of 55 years to his devoted wife, Janis Phillips. Together they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and support. He is also survived by his daughter, Michelle Blanco, and her husband, Harvey; his son, Scott Phillips, and his wife, Diane Phillips; sisters Dale Bradshaw, Carole Phillips, and Lavonne Goldschmidt , and brothers-in-law Ron Bradshaw and Klaus Goldschmidt. His family also includes his brother Nicky Phillips and sister-in-law Sara Phillips, along with his cherished grandchildren Shawn, April, Hunter Phillips-Price, and grandson-in-law Isaac Price.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Ann M. Phillips, and his brother, Phil Phillips.
A memorial service to celebrate Byron's life will be held on October 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors, located at 6362 South Lee St., Morrow, GA, 30260. Friends and family are invited to gather to reflect on Byron's full life and the cherished memories they hold dear.
Byron Daniel Phillips will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the love he shared will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
