Doris Isom Perry Hopkins of Fayetteville, GA, passed peacefully into eternity on Thursday, February 25th, 2016 at the age of 81. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors, 6362 S. Lee Street, Morrow, GA 30260 on Sunday, February 28 th at 3:30. Rev. Alan T. Barrett will officiate. The family will receive visitors from 1:30 – 3:30 at the chapel prior to the service. Friends and family living in the Greensboro, NC area, are invited to join the family on Tuesday, March 1 st at 2:00 for internment at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407 (336-299-5177). Rev. Mark Shelley of Shannon Hills Chapel will preside over the graveside committal. Doris was born in Summerfield, NC the oldest of three sisters. The three sisters spent their school days in Greensboro, all graduating from Sumner High School. Doris took pride in her first job working the soda fountain counter at a five-and-dime store. In her youth, she met and married Glenn M. Perry and together they had two children, affectionately nicknamed Butch and Becky. Beginning in 1973, Doris became an integral part of the administration and accounting department at Lockheed Air Terminal in Atlanta. One of her favorite activities was working the ticket counter for charter flights. She provided support and coordination for the extensive ground support activities associated with Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, H.W. Bush and Clinton as well as heads of state, royal families, dignitaries and celebrities. After twenty-two years, she retired from Lockheed and remained lifelong friends with a number of her coworkers. Later in life, Doris married David C. Hopkins. Together they enjoyed companionship and traveling the countryside making memories together. Doris enjoyed rambling through craft fairs and had a passion for flower gardening. She also loved making treats for family and friends at Christmastime. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, David C. Hopkins; her parents, Lindsay T. Isom and Edna Forbes Isom, as well as her two sisters, Hazel Perdue and husband Horace, Nancy Perdue and husband Clyde. She is survived by her son, Robert L. Perry (Butch) and wife Mary Lou; her daughter Rebecca P. Blanton and husband Doug; eight grandchildren, Scott Perry, Ben Perry and wife Sarah, Jennifer Joyce and husband Chris, Laurie Pierce and husband Matt, Wesley Blanton and wife Tali, Cynthia Schroeder and husband Phil, Bethany Blanton and Riley Blanton; twelve great grandchildren; an uncle, L.G. Isom; a niece, Etta Kirkman and family and a nephew, Marc Perdue and family.
