Mary Louise Massengill Jordan

June 3, 1934 — January 30, 2015

Mary Louise Massengill Jordan was born on June 3, 1934, at King’s Mountain Memorial Hospital, Bristol, Virginia to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond M. Massengill of Blountville, Tennessee. She attended Blountville Elementary and Blountville High School graduating in 1952. She graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1955 with a BS degree in Business Administration and minors in English and Social Studies. She received her Master’s Degree from Georgia State University in 1968. She was a teacher at Blountville High, Dobyns Bennett (both in Tennessee), Roosevelt and Washington High schools in Atlanta and Forest Park High School in Clayton County, GA retiring in 1987 with a total of 38 years. She was a devoted member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church where she served as elder and later Morrow First United Methodist Church where she served on many church committees. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on October 29, 1946 in the Blountville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Eugene Jordan. She is survived by her two children, Sherry Jordan Smith and husband, Rick Smith and Edward Odelle Jordan. She has 3 grandchildren: Hayley Elizabeth Smith Henderson and husband, Chase, William Patrick Smith and wife, Fawn, and Edward Alexander Jordan. She is also survived by one brother, Myers Newton Massengill and his wife, Jan, in Bristol, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by another brother, Raymond M. Massengill, Jr. of Bristol, Tennessee and survived by his wife, Harriette Massengill. She is also survived by 5 nephews and 1 niece and their families. The funeral will be at Morrow First United Methodist Church Monday, February 2, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Philadelphia Presbyterian Church immediately following the ceremony.
