He was born February 03, 1922 in Alpharetta, GA to Charlie Ballew and Ruby Neece Ballew. He was an 83 year resident of the East Point and Forest Park, GA area before relocating to Clearwater, FL. He passed away on October 30, 2014 in Clearwater, FL. He is survived by his children Kathryn Ballew Huber, Fayetteville, NC, Cynthia Ballew, unknown and son Thomas L. Ballew of Orlando, FL, children of Billie Phillips Ballew, deceased, in addition to 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and his companion, Jean Sibbald of Clearwater, FL. Stepchildren, DeeAnna Bickford, Tim Smith, Linda Cason and Cindy Taylor, children of his second wife, Bobbie Jean Ballew, deceased, in addition to 7 step grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren. Surviving sisters are Dot Ballew Williams of Dallas, GA and Barbara Ballew Jackson of Hickory, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sister, Irene Ballew; brothers, Louie Ballew, Joe Ballew and William (Bill) Ballew, all deceased. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 serving in WWII in the Pacific Campaign; he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation in 1944. He enlisted U.S. Marine Corps in 1946 and was active duty in 1951-52 for the Korean War. He retired in 1976 as a 1st Sergeant. He retired from International Teamsters Union after working for Johnson Motor Lines. His church affiliations have been Bible Baptist Church, Palm Harbor, FL, Tanner Baptist Church, Ellenwood, GA and First United Methodist Church of East Point, East Point, GA. After coming to Clearwater he volunteered at Religious Community Food Bank once a week for 8 years. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-8 pm at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors. Services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 11:00 am in the chapel at the funeral home. Rev. Charles Huggins will be officiating.
