Mary Ruth Power Carter, 88, of Lake City left us peacefully to be with our Lord on May 31, 2014 at Lake Keowee, Seneca, SC, enjoying family time surrounded by daughters. Born in Colbert, GA, on July 3, 1925, the daughter of DeWitt Talmadge and Addie Kincaid Power. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 46 years, William Frederick Carter, Sr., brothers, Talmadge Hawkins Power who was lost at sea on a World War II bombing mission and Curtis Eugene Power of Forest Park. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Jan (Tam) Boggs, Greer, SC, Kaye (Clint) O'Brien, Marietta, Linda (Ed) Lake, Augusta, Melanie (Mick) Workman, Acworth, Fran (Kevin) Morice, Hoschton; sons and daughter-in-laws, Fred (Cindy) Carter, McDonough and Mike (Janet) Carter, Locust Grove; fifteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A devoted homemaker and businesswoman, she raised 7 children while partnering with her husband to make Carter's Cleaners a successful family business in Forest Park and Morrow for 59 years. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 5 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Forest Park. Lie in state at 12:00 pm. Dr. Wayne Edwards and Dr. Reed Crumbliss will be officiating. Interment to follow at Jonesboro City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston or the donor's favorite charity.
