George H. Collier

George Herman Collier, 81, died May 9, 2013. Mr. Collier was born in Manchester, Georgia on August 27, 1931 and was the third child of James Clyde Collier and Gertrude Kersey Collier. Mr. Collier served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his service in the Air Force, he went to work for the FAA where he worked for 35 years. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Southern Federal Credit Union in August of 1992 and served as Chairman of the Board from August 1997 to January 2012. He also volunteered his time reading to elementary school children in Clayton and Glynn counties. His Grandchildren knew him affectionately as Bopee. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 13, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Forest Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myra Joyce Pike Collier. Mr. Collier is survived by his sons, Wesley Collier (Jamie) of Dunwoody and Sammy Collier (Ginger) of Marietta; a brother, Sanford Collier (Glenda) of Rome and five grandchildren, Dee and Sam Collier of Dunwoody and Wes, Ben and Annie Collier of Marietta. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
