Celeste McKinney Starr went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 5. She was born on Christmas Eve 1925 to Joe Brown and Annis Lee McKinney and was a lifelong resident of Clayton County, having lived in Forest Park most of her life and the last few years in Jonesboro. Celeste and her high school sweetheart, Terrell, were married almost 65 years before his death in 2009. Celeste was a member of First Baptist Church of Forest Park (formerly Forest Grove Baptist) from the cradle to the grave and sang in the choirs for over 60 years and she was a member of the gospel group Harmonettes Sextet for 45 years. She loved her church, her family, and her friends. She was beloved by all who knew her. She was a kind and generous lady who lived a wonderful life and will be missed so much by so many. Celeste was preceded in death by her husband, (former) Senator Terrell Starr and her brother, Henry McKinney. She is survived by her children, JoAnn (Rick) McJenkin, Terry (Jan) Starr; grandchildren, Adam Starr, Benjamin (Stephanie) Starr, Joseph (Audra) Starr; granddaughters, Jillann and Nance Starr and great-granddaughter, Tacie Starr. She has many surviving nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved as well. The arrangements will be by Thomas Scroggs Funeral Home, S. Lee Street, Morrow (770-961-2828) and visitation will be there Saturday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Forest Park, 634 Main Street, Forest Park GA 30297 (404-366-6333), with Dr. Reed Crumbliss and Reverend Jamie Lambert officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery.
