William Franta "Bil" Slife

William Franta "Bil" Slife, age 84 of Stockbridge died peacefully at Vitas Hospice on Nov. 26, 2012. Bil was born in Atlanta to Frank and Rebie Slife on Sept. 25, 1928. He graduated from Tech High, earned a B. S. degree from Georgia Tech and was owner/manager of Slife Inc. Wholesale Plumbing Supplies. At age 33 he answered a call to ministry and entered Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He earned both a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministries degrees. He served as associate pastor at Calvary and Cascade United Methodist Churches in Atlanta. For several years he was Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. This position included being the director of Camp Glisson near Dahlonega, Ga. For 10 years Bil was the Director of Religious Education at Ft. McPherson, Ga. He was active in the Christian Educators Fellowship serving as president for several terms. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marti Black Slife; daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Snipes (Tim); sons, John and Joseph Slife (Joye); granddaughter, Lindsay Snipes; grandsons, Gideon, Reuben and Jared Slife; sisters, Mary Slife Evans, Bradfordsville, KY. and Sylvia Slife Redfield, Chandler, AZ. and Opheim, MT. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, 142 S. Main St., Jonesboro on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Camp Glisson, 690 Camp Glisson Rd., Dahlonega, GA, 30533 or Jonesboro First United Methodist Church. Thomas L.
