Mr. Ted Key of Jonesboro passed away September 27, 2012. Ted was a prominent Clayton County teacher, historian and story teller. He was born in Key West, Fl. Oct. 17, 1938. Ted taught Georgia History in the Clayton County School System for 33 years. After retiring he taught full time at Woodward Academy for 9 years and continued with special programs and substituting after that. He was a member of the Georgia Teachers Hall Of Fame and Clayton County Teacher Of The Year twice. Ted worked closely with Historic Jonesboro as a Docent and story teller. He was a well known speaker for many organizations. Ted received an award as an outstanding Methodist Educator by the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. He spent many years working as a state Y Club adviser and received within that organization the highest honor obtainable for someone not in a staff position. Ted is survived by his wife, Judy Key; sons, Mike Key and Matt Key (Terri) ;granchildren, Ashleigh, Kellum and Mitchell; brother Dennis Key (Sherry); sister Joan Murray; several nieces and nephews. Funeral sevices will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church with interment to follow. Dr. Thomas Drake and Dr. Paul Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 3:00 to 6:00 and again Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.
