Mrs. Mae Thomas Hankins, age 89 of Lake City, Ga. passed away Sunday morning, April 29, 2012. She was a resident of Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Community in Stockbridge. Mrs. Hankins was born in Summerville, Ga. on February 26, 1923 and graduated from Summerville High School in May 1940. Mrs. Hankins, along with her husband Edward, moved their young family to Clayton County over 62 years ago and were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Forest Park. Mrs. Hankins dedicated most of her time to being a wife and homemaker; however, she also enjoyed the years she spent with the faculty and students at Morrow High School. We know that Mr. and Mrs. Hankins will celebrate their 72nd Wedding Anniversary together in Heaven this Fourth of July. Mrs. Hankins was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 69 years, Ed Hankins. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Grant and son-in-law James P. Grant and daughter Lynette Farr; 5 grandchildren, Juli, Jill, Jennifer, Gregory, Natalie; 8 great grandchildren, Audrey, Grant, Griffin, Olivia, Bridgett, Sterling, Bristol, Madison and Anna. She is also survived by one sister, Frances Hardeman, who resides in Summerville, Ga. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Forest Park with entombment to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
